In 2019, Dr. Cliff and his daughter Emily travelled to Hyderabad, India to work with People for Animals (PFA), the largest not-for-profit animal welfare and advocacy group in India. Run entirely by volunteers, the Hyderabad shelter receives over 500 calls a month to help animals in need.
In this episode, Dr. Cliff and the PFA crew attend to an injured St. Bernard-type dog going by the name William. Scared and in pain, William ran into a building where they tried to chase and corner him. After several attempts to snare him with a net, Dr. Cliff suggested a simpler method with a makeshift leash. Amazingly, William calmly accepted it around his neck and was quite comfortable being handled like this, which led Dr. Cliff to assume he used to someone’s pet once. Unfortunately, like many of his kind, William now found himself living a dog’s life, fending for himself on the streets of Hyderabad as a stray.
The maggot-ridden wound he was sporting was likely the result of a violent strike to the top of his head or a bite from an animal. Watch Dr. Cliff and the PFA crew treat William’s wound to get him comfortable and ready to return to the streets to continue telling his doggy tales.
